Equilibria Ltd conducted a two-day training on ArcGIS Enterprise Sanitation Infrastructure Mapping from 28 to 29 January 2026, bringing together key institutions involved in urban infrastructure and service delivery. Participants included RURA, MININFRA, the City of Kigali, WASAC, the Ministry of Environment, and other sector partners.

The training marked an important step in supporting Kigali’s transition toward modern, digital management of sanitation infrastructure. As the city continues to grow rapidly, with new housing developments and expanding service networks, institutions require accurate and regularly updated information to plan and manage sanitation systems effectively.

During the sessions, Prof. Aimé Tsinda, Managing Director of Equilibria Ltd, emphasized that digital mapping is now essential for a fast-developing city like Kigali. He noted that sanitation planning can no longer rely on scattered records or outdated datasets but must be supported by integrated platforms that allow infrastructure assets to be mapped, monitored, and managed in a coordinated way.

The training supported the initial rollout of ArcGIS Enterprise as a shared system for sanitation infrastructure mapping across the city. This baseline provides a strong foundation for improved planning, regulation, investment prioritization, and risk reduction, in line with approaches used by leading cities globally.

Prof. Tsinda also highlighted that this is only the beginning. The real impact will depend on making the platform fully operational and ensuring continuous updates as Kigali evolves. Regular data capture will be necessary to reflect new houses, infrastructure upgrades, and changes in service networks.

The discussions further underscored the importance of institutional integration. Linking the platform with the City of Kigali’s urban development processes, WASAC infrastructure systems, and national geospatial datasets from the Rwanda Space Agency will be critical for long-term success.

Equilibria Ltd reaffirmed its commitment to continued technical support and capacity strengthening to ensure that the system remains active, sustainable, and useful for all institutions involved.

This initiative represents a shared investment in a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Kigali, aligned with the city’s vision of green and data-driven urban development.
